How to Create Your Own Private Label Swimwear

Some of the most popular activities in America are also activities that people like having special clothes to do. Take yoga, for example. In the Northeast, 30% of the population now practices yoga, and on the West Coast, 20% of people practice yoga. In the spring of 2017, there were nearly 29 million Americans who had done pilates or yoga in the previous 12 months. Because of this, spending on yoga-related products has gone up by 74% in the past five years.

With all the money being spent on things like private label swimwear, private label yoga wear, and private label sportswear, isn’t it about time you got in on the action?

Your Private Label Swimwear: Step #1

You’re ready to bring your own design to life and see a potential market for your product. The first thing to do is think about design. Whether it’s a private label bikini or some kind of sportswear, your design is the first thing that will set your garment apart. Muted tones or vibrant designs, minimalist or elegant, you can be as involved as you like. Do it all yourself or consult with professional designers at the apparel producer you choose. They can help you take the designs in your head and bring them to life.

Your Private Label Swimwear: Step #2

Once you have the designs in places, the next step is patterns. Patterns will depend on whether the clothing line is aimed at men or women or both, and also whether you want to include special sizes like tall, short, petite, or plus. Contrary to popular belief, creating flattering petite clothes is not just a matter of taking the average size pattern and cutting it down; nor is creating a plus size the opposite. Clothing patterns have to be tailored to the body sizes of the people who you intend to wear them. Again, your apparel producer will be able to get you the patterns you need.

Your Private Label Swimwear: Step #3

Don’t forget to advertise! You’ll need to think in advance about your ideal customer, how you’ll reach and appeal to that type of person, and how you’ll market your products to large numbers of people. If you can focus on one specific group, it makes it easier to market your line, you’ll have fewer competitors, and if you’re producing a quality product you’ll retain customer loyalty.

Your Private Label Swimwear: Step #4

You get what you pay for. Private label clothing is all well and good, but if it fades, comes apart, shrinks, or is otherwise cheaply made, no one will buy from you a second time. Naturally clothing quality will change the price, and the higher quality materials you use the more you have to charge to break even. Just don’t be tempted to sacrifice too much quality in order to rake in higher profit margins. That strategy will only work for a very short time. Once your audience wises up, you’ll go belly up.

Your Private Label Swimwear: Step #5

The final step is crafting a good business plan so you know where your private label is going, what goals you need to meet, how to budget for costs and margins, and how to advertise and use the web effectively in building your brand. This will require help from business and advertising and marketing professionals.

Having your own private label clothing line can be both personally and financially rewarding, but it takes an investment of time and effort. If you’re willing to make that investment, your private label bikinis might just be the next big thing.
