Most people don’t think about the kind of bed sheets they use, but there are many choices out there, and different fabrics can mean a completely different sleep experience. Before just grabbing the cheapest thing on the shelf, do some research to find the sheet set that will work the best for your situation.
You spend about one-third of your life in your bed, so it’s important to get sheets, pillow cases, a comforter and other accessories that are going to make your sleeping experience as comfortable as possible. That can mean different things for different people and it also can mean different choices for different seasons. While you may think a linen sheet set or flannel sheet set looks the best, it may not be the best for your comfort. On the other hand, the most comfortable types of sheets, like cotton and silk, may not look the best.
Linen sheet sets look nice, but their comfort is debatable. While linen does a good job of keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter, there are other fabrics, including cotton and silk, that may feel better on your skin. Linen does have other benefits, however. Linen sheet sets do not generate static electricity and can better absorb moisture, such as sweat, while still feeling dry to the touch.
Flannel sheet sets can be a good choice in the colder months, as they help you keep warm in your bed, but you would not want to keep them on your sheets year-round, because they can make you hot during the summer months.
Cotton sheets are among the most comfortable sheet choices, but they have their own problems. Cotton sheets tend to wrinkle unless you go to the trouble of ironing them. They also tend to be prone to static electricity and also do not absorb moisture like linen sheets do.
Some people think satin sheets are the way to go, and while they can feel very comfortable and luxurious, some people don’t like the slick way they feel, although they are very soft and stay cool.
Though many people think of sheets as an afterthought than no one ever sees, you spend a big part of your life in your bed, so you want to make sure you get sheets that you enjoy and that fit your needs.
